SaaS & the Indian SMB
Indian SMBs are taking to Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) when it comes to applications such as CRM or e-mail. The market has expanded over the past year on the back of strong user demand and an expanding ecosystem of vendors, partners, and third-party service providers.

Beyond SAAS
Platform- and Infrastructure-as-a-service offerings have fewer adherents than SaaS largely because the latter has been around for a longer span of time. Today, the push to IaaS is being spearheaded by service providers targeting SMBs with these offerings while PaaS is mostly the preserve of startups at this point.

Slicing OPEX with desktop virtualization
Desktop virtualization has much to offer but, while administrators love it, change management has to be handled with care. The adoption of this technology has been fairly widespread in IT/ITES and BFSI with government, education and manufacturing showing some signs of interest.

Maintaining security in the Cloud
As organizations begin to migrate to the Cloud, there is still considerable confusion about how best to handle information security.

Data residency: a thorny issue
The issue of where a Cloud provider stores its customers’ data is a troublesome one. Organizations in verticals such as BFSI and government/public sector are barred from allowing their data to be stored outside the country. Pupul Dutta polls the experts to find out what’s going on with regards to this facet of the public Cloud

The Indian government’s Cloud roadmap
With no road map from the centre to hop on to the Cloud, state governments are doing their own test runs, creating multiple opportunities for vendors.

Opening up the Cloud
Open source is playing a dominant role in Cloud computing changing the platform and application dynamics. Mehak Chawla evaluates the scope, usage and enthusiasm around open source software in Cloud computing

Indian CIOs and the Cloud
Indian CIOs continue to show increased interest in the Cloud with smaller organizations taking the lead in deploying critical applications and infrastructure in the public Cloud.
