To ensure smooth operations, it was very essential for Mercedes to maintain
and update its database. With ever increasing database, Mercedes was in urgent
need of a faster mechanism for its record of information. The size of the database
had to be increased alongside its capacity so that it can be used by a number
of people simultaneously, without affecting the speed. It had already experienced
a database malfunction in the past.
Challenges faced by Mercedes
Mercedes faced unique operational and systems challenges in an increasingly
competitive yet highly regulated environment.
To gain the competitive advantage across it needed to manage burgeoning challenges,
such as expanding maintenance costs for IT infrastructure and end-to-end integration
challenges; increasing security, regulatory and environmental considerations.
Maintaining the customer database was another big challenge. Due to absence
of structured Performance Tuning there was huge database malfunction. The increased
usage of database by a number of people was showing slow performance due to
which the database also crashed twice. The regular power failure was also causing
loss of data which lead to corrupted files in database.
