Socomec-Numeric targets three-phase UPS market

Socomec-Numeric Private Limited is targeting the three-phase UPS market in India. Speaking on the occasion of the global launch of its range of products for the Indian market, R Chellappan, Managing Director, Numeric Power Systems Limited said that, while the products shall be those from Socomec, the sales and after-sales service shall be taken care of by Numeric under the JV. The JV has also clearly demarcated the boundaries for Socomec and it will not enter the single-phase UPS market. Numeric still has its own brand name for that sector.

“Warding off competition from other established names in the market will be tough, but then there is competition everywhere,” said Norbert Jacobsen, MD for Socomec-Numeric Pvt Ltd. “With our technological edge we intend to capture the major share of the market in India,” he added. Socomec-Numeric Pvt Ltd has shown a turnover of nearly 12 million Euros in one and half years of the JV’s operations in India.

Michael Carter, CEO for Socomec admitted that his company was late in entering the Indian UPS market but expressed his confidence in Numeric leadership in India to help them increase their market presence in alternative power generation. Socomec considers itself to be a specialized company catering to only high-end users. Apart from the UPS division, it has a presence in the Indian market with a JV with HPL in the switches market for nearly 16 years now.

Speaking on the target market of the JV, Chellappan said that South India was the priority where IT is booming as opposed to the North.

While the JV is meant only for the Indian market, when queried on the subject of it translating to other countries where Numeric has a presence, Chellappan said, “You can never predict the future.”
