Dell’s dual-socket servers and workstations

Features: Dell has introduced dual-socket servers and workstations while maintaining a common system image for both single and multi-core systems. Dual-core technology combines two processing units into a single processor chip resulting in performance enhancement and power efficiency compared to single-core processors, especially when running multiple applications.

The dual-socket Dell PowerEdge 1850, 2800, 2850 and 1855 blade servers, along with the Dell Precision 470 and 670 workstations will now incorporate dual-core, Intel Xeon processors. These new processors include the same Intel chipsets used in single-core Intel Xeon processors for servers and workstations which give customers an easy migration path to multi-core computing.

Dell PowerEdge servers running I/O-dependent messaging and database applications can see performance improvements when combining multi-core technology with PCI Express and DDR-2 memory.

Genius’ optical gaming mouse

Features: Ergo 520 mouse from Genius allows switching the resolution of the mouse to 1600 dpi. By pressing one button on Ergo 520, one can get the highest speed (6040 frame rate while you are shooting, fighting, flying or racing). The resolution can be adjusted to 400 or 800 dpi to deal with general paper work.

The multimedia keys and volume allows you to control music and game sound effects. Some of its features include a maximum of 1600 dpi precision engine for game users, one button sensitivity adjustment from 400 to 800 or 1600 dpi resolution, 5.8 mega pixels/sec image processing, ergonomic design and 4D scrolling function. The systems required are IBM PC Pentium 233 compatible or higher, Windows 2003/XP/Me/2000/98SE, CD/DVD-ROM drive for software installation.

Acer’s TravelMate 4020

Features: Acer has launched TravelMate 4020 based on Intel’s Centrino platform. The TravelMate 4020 series uses an Intel PentiumM processor, the Intel 915GM Express chipset and the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG network solution. It has DDR2, 533FSB memory for express graphics and comes with a 15.4-inch display.

The product has a 60 GB hard disk, anti-slip grip and ports located on the front panel for easy access and the Acer FineTouch keyboard. The Acer Manager includes Acer ePresentation and Acer eRecovery. Additionally, proprietary Acer SignalUp and Acer GridVista technologies have been incorporated into this notebook for wireless connectivity.

Eurotech’s BestNet network rack systems

Features: Eurotech Technologies has launched network racks for switches, hubs, patch panels, and UPS equipment. The racks are available in 1.2 mm steel sheet. The enclosure systems are equipped with four adjustable 19” vertical slots. Powder coated in different colours it comes with extra depth, power strip cable organisers, shelves, fan trays, modem tray, mounting hardware, cooling fan and back plate. The server rack system provides physical security and helps prevent unauthorised access to critical IT equipment and comes with innovative design.

Apple’s iBook

Features: Apple’s iBook G4 line comes with Power PC G4 processors running up to 1.42 GHz and 1.33 GHz, 512 MB memory and built-in AirPort Extreme 54 Mbps 802.11g Wi-Fi wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. The new iBooks feature two patent-pending Apple technologies, the scrolling TrackPad and the Sudden Motion Sensor. Other features include six hours of battery life, the ATI Mobility Radeon 9550 with 32 MB of video memory for graphics and either a slot-load SuperDrive for burning DVDs and CDs, or a slot-load combo drive for watching DVDs and burning CDs. The iBook has Apple’s Sudden Motion Sensor technology to help protect a spinning hard drive if the notebook is accidentally dropped.

The iBooks also include built-in 10/100 BASE-T Ethernet for high-speed networking, two USB 2.0 ports and one FireWire 400 port for plug-and-play connections to peripherals such as Apple’s iPod digital music player, digital video camcorders, digital still cameras and printers. It comes with 40 GB and 60 GB Ultra ATA hard drive.
