Voicecomm 2005 focusses on convergence

The Mumbai agenda of Cisco’s Voicecomm 2005 covered the latest trends in the converged communications space for both enterprises and SMBs.

Cisco’s Voicecomm 2005 saw a major focus on converged networks. With the advent of an IP network, most enterprises are looking at IP telephony deployments. According to Jangoo Dalal, Senior Vice-president and Country Manager, Enterprise and Commercial, Cisco Systems, India and SAARC, “IP telephony will be one of the driving forces to increase productivity and efficiency for employers in India.”

The seminar devoted a major part to how organisations can reduce their communication costs by deploying IP telephony applications. It looked at the issue of how IP telephony is fast catching up with Indian companies and providing them solutions to increase productivity by equipping single converged network infrastructure. It also considered the availability of converging PSTN and VoIP within the Indian regulatory framework. With 20,000 customers globally, Cisco feels that although India has been slow in responding, the market is slowly picking up. The panel discussion on single converged network infrastructure for IP communication covered issues such as why companies need this technology and the legal framework in India. The seminar also included case studies that showed the benefits of IP telephony deployments.
