Come April 2005, and India and other developing nations will be exposed to a zero-duty regime as part of the IT Agreement (ITA) under the WTO. As a result, the Indian market will be flooded with cheap imports of electronic equipment and other products.

Microsoft’s solution for VAT
Microsoft India has announced the launch of its end-to-end VAT-compliant solution ‘AdVATage’ aimed at the SMB segment. The offer consists of a VAT-ready accounting solution from Microsoft’s ISV partners—Wings, Trio and Matrix—coupled with a high-end hardware server (from Microsoft System Builder Partners) and the Microsoft Small Business Server 2003.
