MANAGEMENT - Insight for Managing Technology

Pharma takes the IT route
The common factor between AstraZeneca, Biocon and Sami Labs is that all these companies are in the business of manufacturing drugs although the end-products they manufacture vary. That said, the process of drug discovery is more or less the same for all three.

Wi-Fi and the waiter
That the service industry is an innovative user of IT is proved yet again by Café Coffee Day’s (CCD) successful attempt to cut the long wait from when an order is taken by its waiters to when the customer finally gets to sip a cappuccino. This process used to take all of 25 minutes, something which definitely had to go down. The chain also wanted to minimise errors in order delivery.

Mapping the customer’s designs
India’s traditional advantage of low cost and high quality is coming to the fore even in high-entry-barrier fields such as chip design. Majors such as Intel, AMD, Texas Instruments, Motorola and IBM are already doing cutting-edge chip design work in India.
