At Bristlecone India, a part of the $1.6 billion Mahindra Group, the focus
is on creating future leadership. We have a well-defined role-competency structure
that defines all roles in the organisation. This structure serves as a base
for most of our HR functions. Our selection process focusses on both technical
or functional skills or competencies and behavioural or soft skills or competencies.
Skills such as domain knowledge, technical expertise, analytical ability and
logic are mandatory, and are used as the first criteria for selection.
Quest for learning: The ability to learn, which also includes the ability to
unlearn and re-learn, and the appetite to learn more, is imperative. This is
a huge advantage in an organisation as employees with high learning ability
do not depend on formal inputs for enhancing their competencies but rather proactively
upgrade their skills to quench their thirst for the latest technologies. Such
employees proactively solicit formal training and development opportunities,
thereby creating a win-win combination for both themselves and their organisations.
Positive attitude: We seek the ability to see the positive side of any task
or scenario, and work towards getting the job done. More often than not, having
a positive attitude is contagious and goes a long way towards creating winning
solutions for an organisation.
Proactiveness: Self-motivated employees are always a boon
as the organisations operational efficiency gains impetus.
Customer service: Bristlecone is a global business process consulting firm
catering to Global 2000 companies. Hence, sensitivity towards customer requirements
and the ability to satisfy customer needs are critical. Employees who have an
orientation to customer service give a different meaning to the entire customer
engagement process and thereby enhance customer retention and ensure customer
mining for a long-term business association. These employees become our brand
ambassadors in the true sense.
Communication skills: We assess prospective employees on their ability to present
their chain of thoughts in the most appealing form. Generally, in a client engagement
onsite, this is the most important criterion as first impressions have long-lasting
impact. Communication would be in terms of correctness in the usage of language,
ability to articulate, ability to convince, etc.
