Keralas
experiment with wireless
A fter becoming a fully literate state in 1996, the government
started work on its next vision: to make Kerala Indias
first e-literate state. The objective was two-fold. The first
one was obviousto make use of IT to enhance the efficiency
of services rendered to the common man. The second was to
provide employment opportunities to its vast pool of educated,
unemployed youth.
Business
continuity planning: be prepared and be protected
When a small business loses its Internet connection or its
network for a few hours, it suffers mightily. After all, unlike
a large business, theres often no way to make up for
the lost revenue.
Restructuring
BPCLs intranet
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) is a Fortune 500
petroleum refining and distribution company with revenues
of $12 billion. The massive scale of its operations can be
seen from the fact that the company processes 2,60,000 barrels
of crude per day, has 4,854 gas stations, a thousand kerosene
dealers, and around 1,828 LPG distributors. Its refinery intranet
portal (V-support), which is crucial for its operations, originated
around two years back.
Fighting
viruses everywhere
Being a company whose growth depends on security concerns
and viruses, Trend Micro has had plenty of opportunity for
doing business in a market that has never dipped. As India
Inc follows its global counterparts in security, focussed
vendors such as Trend Micro have seen a huge growth in demand
for their offerings.
