CSI (Computer Society of India) Mumbai is hosting a mega event next month.
CSI 2004 has appropriately been titled 'IT++: The Next Generation'. The primary
focus of this event that will be held at Taj Land's End in Mumbai from December
1 to 4 will be upon emerging technologies and innovations from Indian companies.
Supporting CSIs efforts is the Australian Computer Society (ACS), which
is sending a delegation of IT specialists to educate Indian IT companies regarding
the opportunities that are available to them Down Under.
Explained K R Parakala, chairman of the ACS for New South Wales (NSW), While
India is a leader in developing computer applications, Australia is one of the
largest markets for application software. We look forward to making the CSI
2004 national convention a great opportunity to build a digital bridge across
the Indian ocean. There will also be Industry Vertical Tracks devoted
to critical verticals such as banking and financial services, e-governance,
telecom, BPO, FMCG and retail, to be supported by live case studies. For techies,
six Technology Tracks will address hot topics such as emerging database technologies,
knowledge management, language and speech recognition, mobile computing and
human computer interface among others.
Said MD Agarwal, Event Chair, Dr Paul Clements from the Carnegie Mellon
University's Software Engineering Institute (the creators of the highly respected
Capability Maturity Model-CMM) will address the convention.
A CIO summit is also being organised with a session by Franklin Covey on Achieving
excellence in executing IT goals and one on Top Ten Predictions
by Gartner as well as a CEO conclave where CIOs and CEOs will debate on business-technology
issues.
We have signed up with the Mumbai police for CSI 2004 and they will present
tutorials on cyber crime and hacking, added Agarwal.
Along with that, senior officers from the union ministries
of science and technology are expected to share their thoughts on the proliferation
of IT across industrial and consumer-oriented applications.
Active since 1965, CSI last held its annual convention at Mumbai in 1999.
CSI 2004 has attracted more than 200 research papers, out of which
30 have been selected for the annual event.
