Zebra

VAMZ

Zebra Technologies has introduced the widest range of bar code printer management solutions, including the world’s only SCADA-enabled printers, a new user-friendly graphical management package and its own ZebraLink software. Visual Alert Manager for Zebra (VAMZ) is the first barcode printer management solution of its kind for companies that do not have management applications. These packages allow simple remote management and monitoring of printers, saving businesses time and money.

Developed in association with Iconics, VAMZ is a real-time, customisable graphical software package that allows remote monitoring and management of bar code printers for businesses that don’t have an overall system management tool.

Zebra printers can now be SCADA or SNMP enabled, allowing them to patch straight in to a company’s existing manufacturing resource planning (MRP) or manufacturing execution systems (MES). This means that manufacturers currently running SCADA systems can monitor their barcode printing from their central systems. This will allow users to remotely manage and programme their print services. For example, should a printer run out of labels or have a print-head failure, the tool can instantly notify the user, who can remotely assess the issue and resolve it. SNMP enabled printers can plug straight into HP Openview or IBM Tivoli solutions. By replacing the printer status log with a graphical image that resonates with the user, faults can be quickly identified and located. For example, the initial interface screen can be a site map of the printers in the factory, where faults are highlighted by a flashing image at their location.

In addition, VAMZ offers bolt-on modules for SMS text message relaying of faults and Pocket PC versions of the graphical interface for mobile deployment and true ‘management on the move’.
