We’re bullish on the Indian IT industry
NEW JERSEY labour unions are screaming
blue murder, lamenting the flight of government jobs offshore to
India; other states of the US are reportedly following suit. Fortune
500 companies are revving up their outsourcing, and one of the major
beneficiaries is the Indian software industrythe Giga Group
predicts outsourcing to India will grow 25 percent this year. Then
there was news that a former Sun Microsystems employee is suing
the company, claiming that it wrongfully fired American workers
and retained younger (he doesnt add brighter)
Indian software professionals instead. Boy, talk about reverse
discriminationthe shoe is slowly but surely shifting
to the other foot now...
And Express Computer is thirteen.
Every single week, for the last thirteen
years, weve chronicled the progress of the Indian IT industry,
celebrating its victories, laughing together, standing by the industry
in times of trouble, providing a shoulder to cry on, through good
times and bad. Its tempting to claim that we inspired the
industry, that weve been somewhat responsible for its glorious
success. But instead, Id like to do a Winston Churchill and
concede that it is in fact the industry that has the lions
heartits just that we have the good fortune to walk
beside the industry and publicise its roar. Of course its
nice to think that, sometimes, we suggested to the lion the right
place to use its claws, just like Churchill did. At other times
weve merely been the mirror in which the Indian IT industry
takes a long, close look at itself and, when needed, straightens
out its magnificent mane.
Oh yes, were very very bullish on
the prospects for the Indian IT industry picking up the lions
share. India has had massive success in the IT services sphere and
thats extending to business process outsourcing as well. But
the task is far from complete. Im waiting for that day when
the Indian IT industry is renowned not only for serving and subserving,
but also for being up there with the best because of the Intellectual
Property that India owns and the cutting-edge R&D and product
innovation the industry is into. And when all that IT innovation
extends to enabling of the masses in India as well, thatll
patently change the world superpower dynamics forevermore.
Thats why, this year, Express Computer
will do everything possible to promote innovation and innovative
companies in the IT sphere. Recognition, encouragement and reward.
We did that for the software services industry for over a decade;
now were extending it further. And simultaneously, were
on a crusade to propagate and facilitate IT usage in this country
beyond the corporate realm.
While we promote innovation, well
innovate too. Youve seen the ground-breaking research study
MindPrints that we initiated to delve into what really
motivates software professionals. Youve seen the segment research
weve conducted to add erudition and accuracy to our news analysis
and trends-forecasting. Youve seen the wide range of research
analysts and neutral experts we partner with to add further credence
to our content. Youll be seeing a lot more of all this in
our fourteenth year, and then some. It starts right here with this
Anniversary Special in which we give you our annual sector-wise
analysis of whats in store for the industry in the coming
financial year and what the trailblazers in each of these segments
are going to be up to.
What lies ahead is a blockbuster year for
EC and the industry. Stay with us for the revelry!
