Dell has recently announced the availability of the OptiPlex SX260, the smallest and ideal desktop that is suited for space-conscious users. The SX260 weighs around 3.5 kg and is 50 percent smaller by volume than the existing OptiPlex small form factor chassis. It can be easily mounted underneath a desk (horizontally or vertically), to a wall or behind the optional DX260 flat panel solution. The system’s hot-swappable media bay accommodates any module from the popular Dell Latitude C-Family of notebooks, allowing users to share modules, such as CD-RW drive, amongst a mix of Latitude and SX260 systems. A sequential locking system prevents unwanted access to the media bay, chassis cover, internal hard drive door, motherboard and rear cabling, and locks the entire unit to the workspace itself, all through a single Kesington lock slot. The SX260 has no PCI or AGP slots, meaning greater image stability and standardisation. In addition, the SX260 is image compatible with Dell’s mainstream GX260, which helps reduce overall total cost of ownership. SX260 users have the option of Intel Pentium 4 or Celeron processors, up to 2 GB of high-performance DDR-SDRAM system memory and six integrated USB 2.0 ports, two in front and four in back. Networking features include integrated gigabit Ethernet and an optional TrueMobile 1180 802.11b wireless networking module, which connects via USB and attaches easily to the chassis.

Iomega Corporation has recently announced the availability of its latest internal CD-RW drive, the 48x24x48 internal CD-RW drive that boasts of a higher performance with major speed breakthroughs for both recording and rewriting. With a 48x record and 24x rewrite speed, this internal CD-RW drive is ideal for rewriting. The drive offers excellent digital audio extraction (DAE) speed with buffer underRun protection, eliminating the risk of wasted CD media.

Key Features:

• Overburn technology that liberates as much as 870 MB from a standard CD-R for up to 99 minutes of recording.
• Support for VCD data extraction.

Pune-based WYSE Systems has developed a Fingerprint Authentication System called ‘Sentry Biometrics Fingerprint Device’. This indigenously developed device could be used for access control, airport security, bank locker room, server room, PC logon, secure file handling, attendance recording and payroll solution, personnel tracking systems, secure bank transactions, ATM centres and such other places where high security is required.
Sentry Fingerprint Device records fingerprint at the time of enrolling for a hi-security application. Later it verifies the same whenever a person will access that application. Besides commercial use, it could be used in offices, cars and houses to check the entry of intruders. The fingerprint system replaces smart cards based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). It cuts down recursive cost of smart cards. Considering the power crisis in India, the company is making efforts to prepare a battery-operated device so that it can function during load-shedding. The System gets easily integrated on all the Windows platforms in addition to USB and Ethernet connectivity. It would enhance its use in the market.
