Lotus
Software, one of the pillars of IBMs software group,
is reinventing itself to address the lucrative Web services
market. Significantly, India is being seen as a large potential
market for the new offering. Says Frank Luksic, country executive,
IBM Indias Software Group & Developer Relations,
The existing and new customers of Lotus, will be able
to deploy core technology which is knowledge management, collaboration,
and e-learning across the enterprise on a real time basis
with the new offerings from Lotus.
IBM Softwares country manager-Lotus, Pradeep Nair, explains
that there are a lot of Indian Independent Software Vendors
(ISVs) developing products for the global Web services market
who could find Lotus as a platform very attractive to build
their Web services applications on. With the adoption of open
standards such as Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE), the ISVs
using Lotus will now be able to deploy their applications
with a much larger set of customers. They will no longer be
restricted to a Lotus only environment for the deployment
of their applications.
In keeping with the overall software group strategy, the company
also plans to introduce new licensing, deployment and customisation
services for IBM Lotus Sametime, a real-time collaboration
software, with facilities like instant messaging, application
sharing and virtual meetings.
