Inktomi signs up AOL for new software

Inktomi has announced that AOL, the nation’s largest Internet services provider and a unit of AOL Time Warner, has decided to use new Inktomi software to accelerate the delivery of Web content. Inktomi, which offers Internet search and content delivery services, said its Personal Edge software can speed the delivery of Web pages by more than 30 percent, based on independent testing.

Bear Stearns said in a research note that it believes Inktomi will receive a seven-figure license deal from AOL this quarter, noting that the Internet service provider will likely bundle the new Inktomi software into the next version of its service, AOL 8.0. An AOL spokesperson was not immediately available to comment.
