Pot luck!
The dot com meltdown ensured that any form of business done over the Net was viewed with suspicion. But good business practices are bound to survive all tribulations and emerge stronger. Procurement of material through reverse auction is an example of this. Though viewed with suspicion initially, more and more companies are realising the benefits of conducting business in this manner. The reason why people are still wary of such methods of conducting transactions is due to lack of knowledge of the process. To add to it, there are very few websites which offer such services. If some of the more popular ISP’s offered these services it would not only help in educating the public but also serve as a revenue stream for these ISPs.

Managed Supply
One solution propounded by many as the solution that will help companies cut distribution cost by half and bring down inventory levels to almost zero has been Supply Chain Management. But the Indian market is not ready for a complete SCM solution since even mature markets like the US have not been able to successfully deploy a complete end-to-end SCM solution. However, if deployed in phases, SCM can help in creating a culture suitable for deploying such solutions. The mindset is the main problem we face in India. The older generation is still not comfortable with the PC or the Net and hence are unwilling to try out new technologies. The complexities involved in deploying a complete SCM solution might, instead of providing any benefits, actually scare them off.
