Way before independence, Mumbai earned itself the distinction
of being the commercial capital of the country. This lulled the
powers that be into a state of false security, where most believed
that the city and the state would remain the hub of business activity
in the years to come.

plays challenger to Bangalore and Hyderabad
Till some years ago, people living in Mumbai thought of Pune
as the ideal place to get away for a weekend. About a 5-hour drive
from Bombay, Pune seemed an idyllic place with a laid-back attitude.

Real estate has classically been Mumbai’s favourite business.
However, political and social strife coupled with the development
of alternate centres, resulted in a slump in the sector in the mid
90s.
