Deltagram launches voice enabled communication system

Sneha Paul/Chennai

Chennai-based network enabled service provider, Deltagram, recently introduced HALLO, a personalised ‘mail your voice’ service. It allows users to send voice messages to any telephone in India within 15 minutes or anywhere in the world through a pre-registered e-mail account. Says R Kothandaraman, managing director, Deltagram, “The uniqueness of HALLO lies in its personal touch. It enables one to send messages in one’s own voice without having to spend on long distance telephone bills. The service will be available through pay and use membership cards made available to the public through all major retail outlets across the country which will make the service more accessible.”

The service will be available at a price of Rs 6 for one way messaging and Rs 10 if a reply message is required. All that a customer will need to do is to buy the card, dial the Deltagram messaging Centre spell out his password and then dictate his message, which will be recorded by Deltagram’s Interactive Voice Response (IVR) software, which guides the user through the entire process. The customer can even choose the time at which the message is to be sent. To enhance the speed and the efficiency of the entire operation, the company is in the process of setting up a unique nation-wide network of voice mail centres.

The card will be useful for companies who want to get an immediate customer feedback. The solution can also compliment corporate unified messaging systems and according to Kothandaraman, is an ideal medium for one to send greetings or reminders for interviews or luncheons. He says, “Such cards will be very useful for a country like India where PC penetration is low. In comparison, almost every small village in the country is connected by a PCO. This card will enhance the capability of a small analogue telephone to send messages across the world.”

Deltagram is also on the verge of coming out with products like the e-call, e-letter, delta-fax and tele mail. They hope to release these products by the second quarter of 2002.

So far, Deltagram has set up 50 earth stations, connected 250 towns and has over 5,000 collection centres all over India. The company has over 35,000 members and has transacted over 2 million messages for over 2.5 lakh customers. Deltagram is the official messenger for many reputed organisations in India such as Life Insurance Corporation of India, Citicorp credit services, HSBC, Hyundai Motors, RPG Cellular Service, Aptech, NIIT, Standard Chartered Bank and Ashok Leyland Finance to name a few.
