Citrix Virtual Workplace to iron out real problems

According to DAS, a move towards the single server environment will help the company rake in the moolah

Citrix has introduced a new concept called ‘Virtual Workplace’. Targeted at enterprises, the concept is based on the challenges faced in a digital workplace, such as how to protect investments when costly upgrades have to made, how to reduce manageability costs and gain virtual access to business critical information through secure gateways anywhere, anytime.

Souma S Das, managing director, Citrix Software India, says, “Under our new concept of the Virtual workplace, we are bringing three technologies-MetaFrame; Nfuse, an application portal software and Security for Web applications together. These improve an organisation’s productivity and user experience by enabling IT departments to bridge Windows and Web applications as part of creating a virtual workplace for end users from anywhere to any devices. In these challenging economic times, with IT budgets shrinking, Citrix is offering a one stop solution to the enterprise market that will offer a cost-effective yet powerful computing architecture to deliver rapid application deployment, lower computing costs, and device, network and application flexibility.”

Citrix is adopting a multi-pronged strategy to push this concept in the country, as part of which it plans to ally with 60 partners who will sell its solution. Das adds, “We’ll upgrade their technical and sales skills and provide them with training on new technologies. We work closely with IT infrastructure providers system integrators like Wipro, HCL, SAP and Compaq. The third approach will be to form alliances with the top five consultancy firms in India. To create awareness in the market, Citrix will be conducting seminars across Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. Various promotional activities like sponsoring IT and non-IT events and workshops on Virtual Workplace will be a part of the strategy.

“We believe the potential for growth in the country is great. In the last two years we have acquired 480 customers including big names like Bharati, TI, Britannia, HLL, Citibank and Coke. India is a very important market for us and we are expecting it to grow by 45 percent next year,” says Das. Apparently, Citrix India contributes 30 percent to the company’s Asian revenues.

Citrix has been offering these solutions globally for some time now. Virtual Workplace is a kind of re-branding exercise the company is adopting as a strategy similar to what Intel did with its macroprocessing initiative. Enterprises are opting to move towards single server computing platform as it brings in numerous benefits and Citrix is all set to take maximum advantage of this development.
